Yes, but actually catching the softshell is quite rare.  Usually you will need to catch a peeler (a crab soon to slough) and then wait for it to shed.  When a crab is about to shed it will seek out a secluded hiding spot so once it is soft it will not be found (by fish/crabs/people) and eaten.  That's why it's so hard to actually find a softie by itself. Wink
