We know LA is nice place for crabbing before we moved to Lafayette, LA. We plan our first-time crabbing. We have not a boat. Holly Beach is too far although it is a great place. Is there any place near Lafayette area?

I was told that it may not be a good time for crabing because of recent hurricanes. People said that they even won't eat crab because lots of dead animals and fishes in the water after hurricanes. Is this the truth?

I'm still curious of crabing though, we may go to cypremort point for a try this weekend.

Thanks for your info, ran_c! Is there any specific place in cypremort point suitable for crabing? I know there is a state park there.

well, the crabs would eat any dead animals but this is normal.....it's what they do. i would say that with the whole coastline wrecked that the point may be the best water quality left in louisiana. i am not familiar enough with the point to pinpoint where to go....i just know a few of the crab dealers in the area and my mom lives really close in lydia. if there is any other questions i can help you with just give me a holla.

Why not give Itracoastal Point a try. That's the closest point of gulf water. And not so many people. I live in Abbeville here.

I'm looking for a place to go, too. I tried going to Cypermort, a couple weeks ago, but all the crabs were tiny.

Most people crab off the rocks near the fishing pavilion.

I prefer some areas on the side of the road that goes to Cypremort point.

You can catch many crabs in these areas, but they will be very small.

Avery Island is good too, but also have small crabs.

If you want bigger crabs, you must go closer to the Louisiana coast.
