Thought that was 50 degrees? Anyway, I'm going to do a little blackfishing on Saturday as they've made inshore appearances. I'll bring some handlines with me also as I've got a rack of frozen chicken legs left. Bag limit on tog this time of year is one. That plus at least a dozen crabs (I hope) should be enough for some fine tog/crab cakes on Sunday.

Not sure what season you are speaking of crabber101.
There is no official stated season for handlining, collapsable traps, scapping in NJ, though you won't catch much of anything during December through March. Generally it's the season is thought to start slowly in April and carry through to November.
For pots and trotlines, there is a stated "season." Dates are 3/15-11/30, except in the Delaware Bay and its tributaries. There it is 4/6 to 12/4.
Hope this helps.

the crabbing season is closed to all from howell and north
the is no closed season for crabs except for taking them in comm pots - check the regs - the water temps regulate their season - they go into the mud when the water temp drops -just what that is im not sure but they will be out in force very soon

I am new to this forum, I just joined today. The reason for joining is, I have a couple of questions regarding crabbing as far as the tide in the ocean. I went crabbing with my mom last year, and found out the tide was too low when I got down to seagirt, nj. What is the official time for high tide for crabbing? And when is it time to throw in the towel at the end of the year for crabbing? I guess it all depends on the temperature of the water stated in above threads.

For tides, I use a site like this,
http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/newjerseysites.html
The tides must be adjusted for the distance you are from the exact point they are talking about, so find the closest location on the chart, but they have been pretty accurate
