dungeness are caught in open top crab traps recreationaly. best caught in bays such as tillamook, siletz, alsea in oregon. best time is on the incoming tide. baits used are the same as for blueclaws, ie, chix and fish. you can also catch red rock crabs in most of the bays. red rock is strictly claw meat. you clean a dungeness the same way you do a blue but with way less diffuculty. 1 dungy will supply the same meat as half a dozen blues. delicious sweet and the king of lumps. yum yum yum

The next time you are in your favorite seafood restruant that sells Dungeness Crab dinners ask them to add Old Bay to the crab in the cooking process (steam).... I have lived in MD all my life but I think Dungeness crab steamed just like you would a blue crab is better.... (My father and his father are rolling over in their graves right now)... I go to Woodie's in Northeast MD... They do them just right...MHO....
