you can i left fuel in it last year, but i have heard it isn't good for the motor i think the junk settles at the bottom then when you try and start her up agen it could damage your motor.

i would do some research be for leaving gas in the motor.
it might be opinions if leaving gas in a motor is good or bad.
but my grandpa taught me too take the fuel out and put a certain liquid in. it might be anti freeze I'm not sure. but he use too sell cig boats. it also might be how much fuel you have. I'm guessing a small bit cant hurt as much as 200gals.

You can leave the fuel in the motor if you add some fuel preservative like Sta-bil.

Normally you start the motor in a barrel or with muffs on it and let it warm up - then pull the fuel line and just as motor is about to die do to lack of fuel you shoot a foaming agent in to the intake of the carburetor. Then you remove the lower unit grease screws and drain the old grease out. This is in case a seal has leaked and water has gotten into the lower unit. You refill the lower unit by pumping the gear oil into the lower hole, this allows any air to be pushed out the upper hole. Once oil is running out the upper hole you replace the upper screw. Now you can remove the lower fill apparatus and replace the lower screw. This should winterize your outboard, store it in the upright vertical postion. Just like it were attached to the boat. You may wish to cover it.

The user's guide that came with you motor tells exactly how to winterize it.  If you don't have the user's guide, you can do a search on the internet, either for the user's guide or how to winterize your motor.
