Gents/Ladies
Any of you crossbow owners? I was looking at 10 point but wow those are pretty expensive for someone "dabbling" with the idea. I saw the Hortons and Barnetts at Dicks that seemed to be reasonable packages but I understand you get what you pay for. The ladies uncle was showing off his last night (going hunting today). So of course I spend my time off looking at crossbows. And um the baby is coming soon so I have been getting rid of the "junk" and hording the good stuff.
"Yeah baby I have always had this crossbow"
thanks Blue

I've got a Horton. It's well made & accurate. I'd never take a shot over 30 yds, tho, well maybe if it was a monster and there was no wind.

I really like the Excaliburs. I don't use one, but have shot them and it would be my choice. They are very noisy. So while accuracy may be there with any brand crossbow you will have to keep the deers reaction in consideration.

Very Legal in VA.
And "should" be is a very normative statement. What about someone that isn't legally handicap but has busted rotator cuffs? Or a younger hunter that can quite pull back or a legal bow.
I mean I agree at first thought I was little turned off by it.
Just another form of hunting right?
Especially in urban areas like I live where guns are prohibited.
I can see your point though pounder.

I disagree. I believe anyone should be allowed to use them. They are much easier to use for younger children and as well as older folks not capable of handling a modern bow. The whole idea to harvest your deer in the most humaine way possible. I would much rather see someone use a crossbow to harvest their deer quickly than see them struggle with a compound and wound a deer. The bow hunting sector of this state needs to stop shoving its "trophy" hunting ethics down everyone else's throat and just hunt. jmo

I've only been hunting about a dozen times and still haven't harvested anything. That was many years ago when patience didn't exist in my world :-)

yeah I hear ya... they are legal in MD.. didn't use to be unless handicapped... I think they allowed them about 2 -3 years agoa.. and your right Scott.about the rifle comment.. I hunt shotgun so it is a bit more up close and personal.. 100 -125 yd .... which is a [Sam Hill] of a shot with a rifle slug shotgun.... rifle 2-300 yd no problem. If I could shot rifle wher i hunt I would have killed 10 times as many deer just getting an extra 50 - 100 yds. no question. let alone another 150-200 yds range. so what is the big deal. MD wants us to kill em up anyway... so why not...

im a bow tec at bass pro.horton barnet are the most in need of repair.the barnett always has striped bolt holes, and cracked limbs.the hortons have cracked limbs and warped rails[due to rideing in the front seat of a warm truck then strung and carried outside in the cold]10point and bowtec striker are the better of the group .6 point is ok.but these things are under immense presures.bumping i tree limb during fireing can blow them up.or stalking while cocked.dry firering will surely blow it up too.i hate these things they go off unexpected.they are a timebomb.id sooner hunt with a molotv cocktail.ppl think that they are easyer to hunt with.they are not.ppl buy them that should not be hunting.just cause they think it will be easyer.hunting takes skill.they should have left it legal for handicaped ppl only.too many city slicker yahoo,s.but if used wisely.can be deadly.always keep in mind shooting from a tree stand will change scope eye relief.this will chang your shot placement.if you dont know what in talking about. you shouldnt be hunting

my last line was ..out of line.at the risk of many deer being wounded.i,ll tell you what eye relief is.the distance between your eye and the scope.if one guy 5,5 sights the bow in .and a 6 ft guy shoots it it will not be acurate.the cros hairs will not be at the same spot.if this distance is changed by shooting down or if the angle is different.the bolt will not hit at the same spot as sighted in .if you sight in on the ground. hunt from the ground.if you sight in from the ground.then hunt from a tree stand.your shot placement will be different.the anglechanges the shot .it will hit higher.the rate of gravity is less if shooting down.the rang finder archers choice .is junk.it cannot guess the proper angle of decent, without knowing the feet per second, bow draw lbs, weight of arrow, bolt.its operating from a general rule.i spoke about 2 type of misses in this reply.angle and eye relief

Working at Bass pro hardly qualifies anyone for anything, with all due respect. There are some real winners that work there. The waterfowl department speaks volumes for the knowledge that store and its employees have. Its dis-appointing to say the least! Not singling you or anyone out, but cause you work in the bow shop there, doesnt make you an authority. I'd just as well set my own bow up before I let someone there do it, and Im a Moron!!!

Ive had my barnett for 2years now have shot it 200 times or more .mostly scope adjustment in the beginning ,and my son practicing ..............10 or so deer , dozen noisy squirrels stuck on the side of a tree ,3 fox ,...and so on ..............and have never had any problems.........It is one of there best models but, I think most failures come from miss handling and negligence....
