i was driving over the bridge a couple days ago and looked down in the water and was shocked to see crab traps set already. thought it was a little too early for them crabs to be out.

eelfisher ----- ya sure they were crab traps and not 'bait' traps?
Our water temp here in South Jersey is running around 47 - 49 degrees. Still way too cold for the Jimmeys. Seen alot of Fiddlers though.

Hey "fishnhunt" ---- I assume from your comment that your from the "other coast" ---- the one that 'quakes' now and then.
Welcome to this web site. I think you will find a pre-disposition to the Atlantic "Blue crab" and most comments regarding that best of all crab delicacies, (sp?).
Anyway ----- glad to see another crab enthusiast on board as a new member. Welcome and enjoy all the conversation and comments.
Hey Steve --- (The web site monitor), we, you - may have to subdivide the topics on this web site, between the "BEST OF ALL CRABS - THE
Callinectes sapidus
and all the others.
Anyway - again, welcome aboard 'fishnhunt'.....

yea I realize that this site is mostly about blue crabs, but their habits, design, and taste is all pretty similar. This will be another resource to rely on. And ya'll seem like a nice bunch.
The attached picture is of one of our local crabs, the Kelp Crab. Although not eaten, they sure look great

Wow...that is an interesting looking critter!
I used to volunteer at the NJ State Aquarium in Camden...and we had a Spider crab explosion one season...just had tons of them it seemed. Until I saw that Kelp crab, thought they were the funkiest crabs I ever saw!
