But we really don't know if it will be annual
?
Fair enough, that has not been clearly established, has it?
So, is the consensus that this is a per mumbo (as far as largest until topped by a larger one) or per year competition??

I believe we are going to state in the rules the crab has to be a fresh catch in the 09 season. Stored crabs will not count.

As far as the name goes, perhaps we should ask OSB his opinion since he forged the idea. He might have an idea of what he wants to call it. Not to say the contributions weren't appreciated but, its only fair.

That is already understood per the rules that have already been established. "Current" would mean current as of the 2009 season and forward to coming years. If I interpreted the meaning of your response wrong, sorry.

I'm in the boat with the Madcrabber on this one, but spell out the BCA. Big Blue Award is kind of "catchy".

MY BIG 10"
BLUE CRAB AWARD
BIG A$$ BRONZED BLUE CRAB MOUNTED HERE
Little replace-able bronze tag here with
JOHN DOE
10 1/?"
2009
"MY" could be replaced with BCA should the bossman want to sanction and make the contest official.
Perhaps a ruler painted underneath the crab would be kind of cool.

Just another thought, maybe it should be this way as there is no guarantee that a ten inch plus will be caught in any given year
Or is this going to be strickly for the ever elusive ten plus inch mumbo??
As far as it being an annual event, it will probably depend on just how it goes this year. Will it turn out generally favorable with a minimum of pissing and moaning? Or will pissing and moaning define it?
If its the former, it could very well become an annual event and I see no good reason it shouldn't.
If it is the latter then no one will care enough to do anything with it.
As far as it being a "strictly 10"" event, that is my inclination, however I am flexible.
But I think considering anything less than 9.5 will produce more entries than we want to deal with.
And I would still want to stick with the "BIG 10""motiff as that is the goal.

Maybe we should have a fund driven to keep this place running so that next year there will be another award....

I really like your vision and think that it would look great. But at what expense to produce it and how to sponsor the cost, plus, something to consider after incurring these expenses is what Jack mentioned.......
do ya think they would work for something your going to pass around. What happens when the next guy says "No, I am keeping it".

As for the cost of the plaque, I think that is pretty much taken care of.
As for an idiot keeping it and not passing it on.....
I may be F.E.O. (
some of you know what that is
) but I keep my word,
and that is one of the things I am trying to encourage others to do in this contest.
for example
Don't say you got a Crab "THIS FRIGGIN BIG" if you won't back it up!
Don't offer a prize if you aren't going to pay the winner!
Don't accept the trophy, if you are not going to pass it on to the next winner!
We can do something like ask the winner to mail us a signed commitment to return the trophy after a year, as it is simply on loan to them for one calender year and then if they didn't turn them over to the feds for Using the US MAIL for purposes of fraud and theft. Usually a call from the local postal master will get someone into gear.
I expect people to be honest until they show that they are not,
then I deal with the problem.
Nobody likes how I deal with their dishonesty.
