You can legally start crabbing March the 17th.  I will be.  Catch will depend on the weather....

Other than Great Bridge Locks Park, where else is it easy to crab around Virginia Beach?...I am using traps with the drop down sides (collapsable)...My boy and I was having a hayday this whole last summer at Little Creek Amphib at the old cement piers but harbor patrol finally ran us off and said it was a closed harbor... Angry
I am looking for a place that has a pier or bulkhead...any suggestions?

The topless traps? or the box traps? The topless crab trap is much better then the box trap.

Nope - it's minutes and minutes of experience! We all know minutes are years to 14 year olds.

Well, my Friend Stevie is a com crabber and he uses box traps they are not bad but they take up a bunch of space and they only really hold two crabs. And my hours of experience says topless are better. Grin

I don't think I ever heard of a comm crabber using box traps, just pots or trotline.

I know 2 com guys that  make their own traps not pots...    It does happen, but it's usually to target a special spot or early season...

It was to early in the season to trotline, he was the one who got me into crabbing. We crabbed in a very small inlit. Just a day for slacking not serious crabbing he brought my older sister her boyfriend, my older sisters boyfriend's Friend and his girlfriend and I. Also his boat is to small for allot of pots, nothing like jacks beauty. If I remember right its a 15-20ft flat bottom aluminum center console with a 50HP
