Just curious.....where are you getting MD crabs from so early in the year?  Even though you say that MD crabbing season starts on 4/1 and you won't have them available until then...how  can you get big ones so early?

How can you set your prices without knowing what your product will cost you?  season hasn't started yet, you couldn't possibly know what the crabbers are gonna want for their crabs.  Unless the knife is in their back already.

or has an "arrangement" with the wholesaler down the shore to screw the hardworking waterman with rock bottom prices at the beginning of the season, when the crabber usually gets good money for his crabs.

The first pot has not been set in MD, the first line not run.  You have no idea how many crabs will be caught early in the season, yet you advertise such low prices.   Unless you have a deal with your supplier to fix the price low, (meaning the waterman gets screwed),  there is no way you can set your prices yet.  So the fix must be in, meaning the wholesaler has said that he's only going to pay x, and sell to you for y.  so when the hardworking crabber comes in with 2 bushel, the wholesaler tells him 50/ bushel take it or leave it, he takes it and goes home to hot dogs and mac and cheese.

And don't even go there telling me I don't know the expenses of selling crabs, or of catching them. I retail my own catch, so I'm well aware of both, but I don't take advantage of a forum to advertise my business.  I'm out of this one, before it goes where I don't want to go

Or maybe the crabs aren't from MD   In one of his posts he says to look at his website......I am a firm believer of the motto  "Believe nothing of what you hear and only 1/2 of what you see"   Grin Grin

Im with you on this Rich..They already have the prices set..Thats why MD waterman should get a co op going and put the screws to these jerk offs.. I was down the road today and some of the wholesellers are saying 65 to start for 1#s.. I was like you have to be kidding..

Buy from your local watermen
