Is anyone experiencing abrupt shuggishness or periods of time where the forum just hangs?

I'm experiencing such episodes which last 5-10 minutes at seemingly random times throughout the day.

I want to report the problem and need to know if anyone else is experiencing the hanging.

I don't think it's anything on your end... the regular (non-forum) website responds very quickly even when the forum appears hung. So far I think I've isolated the problem down to the MySQL daemon on the server hosting the site since ANY page that performs a MySQL query is hanging (this includes the Crab News page on the main menu which is MySQL driven).

Sooooooo.... I'm trying to get my hosting provider to troubleshoot the problem. The sad thing is that by the time they get my trouble call, the problem has cleared up. Then I get some lame message back saying "we don't see it hanging". Duh!

Steve, the problem that you discribed first started happening on th 25th of Oct.  I had just installed a Microsoft update to XP and had moved to a dial up.  I thought the problem was on my side.  One thing I have noticed, (might not be fact), is that the bug shows up when I am posting a reply and someone else is posting at the same time..  Cant prove that tho... Huh

Ok, thanks guys, that information helps a lot!

The next time the forum "hangs" on you for a 30 seconds or more, please jot down the date and the time and the approximate length of the episode. Also, if you get any error message from the forum, like the one Jack posted, please cut-and-paste that error to me so I can report it.

I hate not being in control of the server... trying to get the techs to troubleshoot this problem is like pulling teeth.  Angry

Again, I appreciate the help!!

I changed a setting just now, let's see if that helps.

The forum has over 29,000 posts.  Shocked  Each time a search engine spiders the forum, it has to plow through all those posts which really puts a burden on the server. So, I essentially told search engines not to index the forum. We'll see if that resolves the problem.
