I bought four Frabill Deluxe minnow traps in the spring but still haven't put them in the water yet!
Maybe next year?

Another bait used by those not fishing crawfish commerically is any kind of liver in a mesh bait bag and beef or hog lung. It seems that oily (shad or pogey) or bloody bait works best.

Steve,
I fish quite a bit north....in and around Tunkhannock, Meshoppen, Mehoopany,...20 or so miles north of Wilkes-Barre. Great smallmouth, walleye, and Musky fishing.
Was brought up in Springville you brought back a lot of memories

Lefty, Do you mean the ring traps like are used for crabs? Or, the minnow type traps, torpedo shaped. I'm thinking about puttin out one in a creek around me sometime this week. Maybe Friday night. I've read about re-working a minnow trap into one for crayfish. I should be able to do that with the one I have. Will report back.
yes the rings for traps, try to keep the bottom as flat as possible cuz they'll try and take the bait from the bottom. but you will catch MONSTERS

Jack it's a crayfish trap, not a Lobster trap.

Heading down to Delaware and then Maryland for the weekend.
When I get back I gotta get the boat on the water and then I'll throw my crawfish traps in.
I'll post a report when I get some!

Here is something I've never seen posted about here!
I like eating these that I get at the local Chinese Buffet.
I have had them fresh too at a feast in Florida and they taste a whole lot better fresh and spiced!
I have added a couple of links from You Tube to look at.
Anyone else here ever eaten any of these and has anyone here gone and caught them yourself? There are seven species here in CT and you can catch them in a minnow trap. I've gotta give this a go!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzFTjNIcjuc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps7mqQrAmbE&feature=related
That sure looks like some good eats to me!
I just called the CT DEP about Crawfish.
"They are considered a bait species and you need a freshwater fishing license to catch them".
CT has got it's hand in your pocket all they can!
I've always wondered about cray fishing here in NJ I used to cray fish myself in Colorado at the lakes behind fort carson colorado and wow they were awesome we always went home with buckets full and man are they some good eating....

Last year I finally did get the crayfish traps in the pond by my house where I used to see a lot of crayfish as a kid. Didn't catch a single one! I don't know where they went? Bummer! Back to the drawing board!

I ran walleye charters on Lake Erie long ago. After limiting early used crawdads for smallie bait near the boulders. Wiggle Warts trolled caught a lot more, just not as much fun. After walleye and yellow perch I have no idea why clients would keep to eat smallies.
Going to have to try some now as they are on a few menus and in some sea food stores.
Only local caught though. I saw a program by either AL or GA state government-- will never permit sea food of any kind from anywhere in Asia in the house.

Most buffets have the ones from Asia , and they are nasty . Get you some from a farm down South . The only thing is I'm not sure ya'll (you guys) LOL like food as spicy as we do . I've been over friends houses that tell me they have some friends that can't eat spicy , so they tone them down and they just aren't the same. If you don't sweat when you're eating them they aren't quite as good.
