try this trick that i read on this site some time ago. on your main line from the float tie on a cinder block at the end then 6-8 ft of more line going to the pot. the thief will pullup the main line and when he gets to the block he'll thing he's been fooled and let the line go. when you pull the line and get to the block just set the block in the boat and finish pulling to the pot.

Go on a stake out. Stay out to the distance and fish. Don't show any obvious crabbing gear. When someone pulls up your floats get there registration number and get DNR on them. You can also tie a line to the trap/pot so when they start to pull it up you feel the line pull. Kinda like catching a criminal. ...Or you could just glance over your shoulder every once in a while. They don't care who's around because they think that other people think that that is there gear.

Put a big rubber snake in your pots. Where I used to work there was a guy who did this in all our trucks to discourage snooping.

I thought it was sharp trebble hooks, he needs to do a search of crabguy's posts, he had the same problem and it was either a 9mm or trebble hooks that solved the problem.

that sucks dude, here around baton rouge we're raised to know that you NEVER touch a trap/pot that isnt yours. its just wrong. ppl get shot around here for it, your messing with somebodys lively hood messing with their traps.
it does however happen, and ppl are good about calling the cops, or in most cases it happens in places where "everybody knows everybody" and usually somebody sees it and calls or gets word to the owner.
i do like the treble hook idea, that is awesome. i'll have to remember that.

That's a DANG good idea If you're running single pots that is TOO MUCH WORK....IMO Would work great for the guys that longline

I used it on three traps, but you got it wrong about dropping that nasty, muddy cinder block in the boat. You bring it near the surface than grab the line to the trap, dropping the block back to the mud bottom. Have enough line to the trap that you can empty it inside the boat with the block back on the waters bottom. I was using it in five feet of water, and I had fifteen ft. of line from block to trap. I never lost a trap that season, and the traps came up with all their crabs.

Welcome to the forum. Suggestion.......forget the chicken liver and get some chicken necks or drumsticks. The crabs will tear that liver to pieces in a couple minutes. Good luck.

It used to be... So, what you're "attempting" to say is that the people on this board are some of the one's you have to worry about

So, what you're "attempting" to say is that the people on this board are some of the one's you have to worry about No, not at all. I am a believer that once you tell someone anything, within time, everybody will know.
