Welcome aboard, Mr. Crabbs. I haven't been out yet this year, but I was pouring over last year's records, and I didn't start catching until mid-June in Staten Island. If I remember right, the Hudson took a little bit longer. Last year, all of my trips before June 18th resulted in lots of spider and calico crabs, and some short blues. Last year also had a warmer spring, so I'm thinking it may be a late start this year. I'll probably test the waters next week sometime.

i agree it's what june 5th ? i don't think we've had more then 2 days over 80 degrees.....we normally have 7 or 8 such days by now.....i'de be pretty surprised to see any "real action" before the 3rd week of june.

I am going to give eastern CT shore in another couple of weeks. Maybe the weekend of the 20th.
Earlier than that I am not sure about. Even then might be too early.

Was in chincoteugue and didn't crab. Wife said it looked like it pained me and it did. Gotta a feeling the blues are coming earlier this year but farther down the Hudson to start. Peekskill should be a good starting point. get out there now and lets start complaining. CSC

I don't think they will be coming early this year..........
Rain and low temps will almost certainly prevent that

I think it's still a bit early with all this cool rain. Water temperature in the Sound is 63-64F and the crabs have only started moving on the south shore. It will still be a few more weeks until they make their way up the Hudson. I know they were getting them on the Hudson earlier last year than I first saw them on the CT shore!
Best of luck to you and please let us know know how you did. Still waiting in CT!

looks like the salt line is way down in Tarrytown. anyone ever caught crabs above it? would make sense that you wouldn't...yes? I like bunker personally but if you aren't catching them change it up. Anyone try the WD40 trick when your baits get stale? it works sometimes. CSC
