when is the best time to crab. Do you want to crab at just around high tide or just in the morning the tide charts show that when I will be going high tide is at  like 12:50am  and 1:20pm any advice is appreciated

i think the crab just have to be hungry and warm. that tide,moon,wind junk is just excuses we look for when we dont catch anything.

I agree when the tide is moving is your best chance.If you crab enough at different times of the day you will notice that when the tide stops often so do the crabs.At least until they are running in good numbers.

Moving water is essential to catching crabs.  time of day is also during the height of the summer.  early morning and late afternoon  are better during the summer, but doesn't seem to be as important early and late in the season

if the tide is coming in I drop my traps shallower then as it goes out I move them deeper.

I think the best time to crab is usually when the tide is coming in, later in the day (less people out their), warm out, not much freshwater in the creeks from alot of raining, and not too rough out there (atleast with me since I have a smaller boat and it throws it around everywhere).

Another reason that commercial guys start so early is because they need to be done early, and get their  crabs sold.  Not many buyers want crabs at 5 pm.  especially when its hot. Wink
