I'm usually on the Long Island crabbing boards, but my inlaws just bought a beach house in Belmar and we're going to visit this week so I thought I'd try to get some crabbing in this Wednesday (crabs are still way offshore in LI). I've crabbed a couple of piers near Seaside Heights, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or would want to join on a boat rental? I noticed a couple posts saying the crabs were just starting to come in. If any of you know Jerry (Mutzy Crab Man), he recommended I put up a post. Thanks!

You can rent boats in Belmar but not sure how you are going to do in the river there.  Years ago I did well in the back but I haven't seen a blue claw in a while.  I keep my boat there in Belmar at the main marina.  I suggest while you are there just to take 35 south and head down to Barnegat bay.  I crabbed today in Mantoloking and had a dozen in couple of hours.  I'll give it a good shot this coming week.

Wish I had the time this week to join you, unfortunately I used a day off last Friday to go.  Best bet if you don't mind renting is to go over to Dockoutfitters in Seaside.  They are pretty good and if you head south around IBSP there will be no one out there but you.  Watch the tides and should be able to do at least 2 dozen.  Other than that, Dockoutfitters lets you crab fro their pier for free but they are always crowded.  Woman at the front desk said word is getting out and the dock has been staying packed for last week.  It was packed when I went out too.

You could also try under the Rt37 bridge or at the piers in Lavallette.  Only problem with Lavallette is you cant park near the piers without a pass.  You'd need to park on the side roads after dropping your gear off then walk over.  You could also do Island Heights over in Toms River but again you need to by a day pass to use those piers.

Whatever you decide to do good luck, crabbing is picking up and if you get a good day you should do well.
