My son and I put set 22 traps out in front of the hospital @ 3:00 p.m.
1. water temp = 82
2. depth = 4' - 7'
3. incoming tide - (barely moved)

We ended up with 26 crabs in about 3 hours, most around 6" - 7.5", threw back a half dozen fat females. Heres the good part - out of 26 crabs 2 of them had deformed claws. I will post pics of them tomorrow. I've never caught a deformed crab before and all of a sudden my first trip to the Inner Harbor and I get two? Anyhow the wife and mother in law ate a couple crabs each and they are still kicking around so I picked the rest of them and may make some soup tomorrow with the meat. We did pretty good apparently as others we talked to out there did worse. One guy said he caught 1 crab, two others said they had 8 crabs after 5 hours ect...

nice ctach, i think the crabs are very spotty this year, one day you hit em and the next day you dont. also i have found that 1 ft of water difference can be a night and day difference, but at least you had 26 and werent the guy with 1.

Here's the picture of the deformed crab claws - they are from two different crabs.

those fancy dippers tear the crabs up up probably not a deformity but instead was broken by hitting metal at a high rate of speed and just hardened that way when the crabs are light they break off points rip off claws etc. really does a number on them
