I was in the hammonasset river today with 12 topless for 6 hours. 5 keepers. Maybe 30 shorts. Majority of the shorts were female. I've never seen that before. Hopefully all the shorts mean things will pick up soon?

Tin Cup, Thank you for the report but sorry they weren't a little bigger!
Aar684, Thank you for your report. Glad to hear you were able to get some keepers! Better than I've done yet!

You are welcome. They were hard earned. I'm hoping that all the shorts mean good things in a couple weeks.

The only thing I can say about clinton is to try the hammonasset river. That's where I go every year. This year has been slow though as my reports have stated. You can also try the Indian or Hammock rivers, both in clinton harbor.

You could also try the Menunketesuck. Handlines from shore, traps off of the bridge. Would love to hear a good report out of CT soon. Wonder how the east end of the state is doing?

Tried yesterday. All shorts and snapping turtles. Guess I'll wait until late August or go down to NJ and rent a boat.

Finally got out and tried around Norwalk. Low tide was at 11:16. I was there and looking in the shallows...to about two feet depth. Lot's of small Horseshoe and large Green crabs. Then...there it was...a Blue! Bummer he was only about 5 inches! Looked around for another 1/2 hour and found six more of his bretheren.....all about the same size. Total for the evening was seven crabs all 4-5 inches and none bigger. All were males to swim another day. Guess I got some more waiting to do. I'll give em another two weeks and see if they are any bigger. It sounds like the early reports are a lot of small crabs. Hopefully the bigger ones are following along and will show up later! Usually the bigger ones are the first to arrive.

Fished and crabbed the DEP Dock in Old Lyme, last night, tide coming in. 4 Keepers, way to many shorts. Still a couple of weeks away I'm guessing. Water has been very dirty, due to all the rain we've had, sure this isn't helping any....
