We went out wed. am 7/22 for a day on the water. Put in at Massey's. Put 2 pots in just south of the launch in 15ft of water . We spent the rest of the day fishing and calmming. Fishing nothing but throw backs, calmming we did fairly well. The problem was when we went to get our pots. The tide dragged one pot about 50 yds. The other one some one picked up. If anyone has any info i would greatly appreciate it. In spite of that we still had a great day on the water.

The tide runs too hard there ......... probably went out with the tide .

If the pot doesn't have irons it probably rolled up on its own line, pulling the bouy under.

you have to tie wieghts to the bottom of the pot and it will stay in place. We have to do the same thing in broad creek near bethel when we throw pots there. I doubt we are going to get a chance this year cause the salt line has not risen as far.

Small pieces of rebar work good. Found some old window weights in a house I am renovating, and those will work well too.

I had a couple of lbs. of weight but i guess not enough. Never though about the pot rolling up on it self, sounds logical.Restores my faith in fishermen and boaters. Thanks guy's

For three years on vacation I put my pots in close to the power plant. All have been stolen I assumed. I stopped last year putyting them out over night.

yeah.. people spot um out and go out at night and snatch up your traps. I've heard of people doing that, and have witnessed it myself last year on the way home... It's because that place isnt heavily patrolled which is kinda good that its not but not when people wanna claim your traps!

you cant put traps out for any period of time unless your sitting their staring at them and even then people will probably try to mess with them. i have been crabbing for years and trust me the [curd] i have seen people do is pretty stupid. on the other side of that issue if those people are willing to take that risk and they get caught i know a few old boys that would make them never do it again. put a cinder block in the bottom and watch it grow legs.

Regarding your pots I was down at IR during the week your talking about and had 3 pots out myself, but was lucky enough to find mine the tides where so crazy that my pots. Where dragged over 1500 feet away took me hours to find them. For some reason that the tides where so crazy that you couldn't even anchor upsometimes.
