When you say clean them alive- do you mean you clean them right after you kill them?

I like to drop the crab into the sink, with one hand grab the point of the shell, with the other hand i grab the inside of his front claw.  Then pull the shell in one motion across the crabs body. I then take the tongs and push them together pushing them into that cavity in the middle of the crab closer to the front.  I'll usually get a few last reflexes out of the crab this way, and it makes me feel better that I wont get squeezed by a claw.  (I probably deserve it anyway)  Then i clean out all the organs, gills, etc. and give them a final rinse.  Ready to go!

lived in oregon 4 awhile and caught dungeness. much bigger than blues and easier to clean. used to split them alive and clean then boil em but with blues allways just boiled em whole maybe i will give that a try on blues just so much work envolved the wife and kids dont like to make the effort. spoiled brats
