I know the best bait for crabing is BUNKER, i have experienced it first hand, but buying it can start to get costly.  Is there any advise or is it even possible to catch bunker, if so where and when?  I am usually in the Chincoteague area fishing for Flounder but if they aren't biting something that would be usefull for crabing would be fun to catch.

Thanks,

Bunker are filter feeders. They are caught commercially by netting.  Wink

Try castnetting from your dock.  They may not be the size you get frozen at the tackle shop, but the small ones work.  You can fill a 5 gallon bucket in less than a half hour.  I use that method when my buddies need a lot of chunk for stripers.

We get a lot of bunker in the Indian River.  So many, there are large fish kills due to the amount of bunker concentrated in small areas of the bay every summer.

I know a couple of spots where they seem to be time after time. Just learned the area  by word of mouth.  Its hard to get info like that some times.  Some people don't give up their spots to easy.  I just snag them with a snag hook , when my buddy is with me he can throw the net and then your done in no time.
