Alright guys & gals,
I need some advice on how to keep the fish you catch while on a pier.  I normally use stringers.  This week while on the Choptank River Bridge my catch "disappeared".  I went to pull it up to add "one more" and poof!!!  Other fishermen said it might have been a blue or a cat.  Anyway something had a nice lunch and I've learned not to use stringers there. I put the rest in my cooler bag for safe keeping.  BTW... got my first nice batch of blue crabs, couldn't pull the traps up fast enough at one point.  No whiteys, one female, lots of little ones but some nice 6 plus inchers.

yeah place our catch in a good cooler ( igloo marine coolers ) are the best.  5 times the insulation and ice em down.  they will hold quite well.  As for stringers the only folks I know that even use em is a few old timers who trout fish.  I don't even use em for that I use an artic creel while wading the streams....
onlakes let em all go..... so stick with a cooler....

Ice them up or come up with a portable live pen to keep them in. When I trout fish and I am near my truck I use a shellfish tote to keep live trout in....works great.

Yea haven't seen a stringer since back when I used went fishing with my grandfather. We even lost the whole thing overboard one day with about a dozen fish on it. funny part is my dad wound up catching the whole stringer and bringing it back in the boat  laugh  laugh

ANYWAY

I found this soft sided cooler at k-mart earlier this year and it has a build in silver colored liner that's made to kill bacteria. I've thrown all kinds of fish in there this year and just sprayed it out with the hose. It smells brand new. I highly recommend them.

Same thing here... That was the last time I saw a stringer too.

Thanks for the info re the cooler.  I'm now using a soft sided one but will definitely check out your suggestion on that particular one.

Dog, what do you need a stringer or creel for when you're only catching bait, as Jack says? laugh laugh

Next time, rig up a short leader with a hook - when you put your fish on the stringer, put the hook in the fish like a stinger hook and attach the leader to the stringer. When the "mystery" fish stealer comes along, you will more then likely catch him. Then you can tell us what is was.
