So it looks like Va and Md are going to try to buy back some of the commercial crabbing licenses...... How many of you Va guys are gonna give some thought to it?
It didn't go too well over here in Md. a reverse auction was done and it went sour... so Md DNR offered a flat rate of somethin glike $2260.00 to buy back a license.... not sure how many takers they have thus far.

At thr regulatory scoping meeting on the 15th in Annapolis, DNR said they had bought back 300 licenses so far. They have 3 mil alotted to buyback and it will continue until the money is gone.

was in Bel air DNR office 2 weeks ago getting an LLC transfered, watched an guy look like he came from the hospital or nursing home sell his LLC... sad site old people who don't know of the internet...

I don't know anyone who is selling. TF has this same thread going, and I didn't see anyone selling over there either. IMO that 3 mil could be used a lot more effectively than buying back an unused piece of paper stuck in a desk drawer for the last 20 years  How does that help the crabs? How about a 3 mil upgrade to a sewage plant? |

VERY GOOD POINT YOU MAKE Where did this "3 million dollars" that the dnr SUDDENLY got to buy licenses back come from  I would bet 10:1 that it was NOT designated just for that...... I agree with you weed.....that money should've been spent to improve the fishery... If you cut recs to 2 dozen crabs per license that would have a WHOLE lot more impact than spending millions of dollars buying licenses that aren't used anyway....and that's FREE |

You hit that on the head RD...DNR needs to control the recreational effort on the crabs...There's an average of what 65,000 rec's crabbin in the bay compared to how many commerical?... |
