My Father Inlaw called the folks who released the Crab,They gave in some info but not much. The Crab was released above Baltimore Md. on the 17th of September 09...They told him that was the first Male crab that got caught out of the Bay..The said they have had sooks caught off of Florida, but never a Jimmie. They are going to send him more info in the next few days..
By my records.....I caught that crab in Middle River on Sept 17th, for the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC). That was the only river north of the Bay Bridge where catch and release research was performed in 2009. More amazing, that crab was one of only 48 crabs tagged that day. Many of last years crabs (2008) tagged in Gunpowder River, were recaught in Virginia waters during the winter months.

Just makes me wonder, for as much as we THINK we know, we sure have learned some interesting things over the last few years with the tagging and COMBS research programs. I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of what we think is gospel is actually wrong.
The down side to that is - all of our rules, regulations and laws have been based on totally flawed data. Imagine that!

The basis of MD law is based on theory.

I'd say it came down the Ocean.. It was caught about 2 miles from the inlet..There are way too many pots in the Albemarle and Currituck Sounds for him to have not been caught....

Does that mean that you will look for some other place to crab.
Maybe somewhere down around Jack, perhaps.
