Crab'n is a way of life....

WWW
« on: December 16, 2009, 07:00:14 PM »

It's a new moon and my aquarium crab just now shed.  She can't see the Moon.  She has no tides.  She gets fed the same thing everyday.  The temperature is constant.  The light is computer controlled.  On and off the same tide everyday. She started signing on the last full moon but didn't shed.  In 50+ years of keeping aquarium Blue Crabs...... It has been always the same....  Believe it or not........  Grin Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Pinchy...  laugh

Jack, I love the aquarium photos.  Please continue to post them.  I'd love to have a crab tank, but just don't have the time to maintain it.  But I love to look at the photos of the crabs you keep.

OMG,  the return of pinchy might happen..... laugh  Jack I agree new moon is just like the full moon.....It is a known fact that animals and fish react to the moon phase..... full moon leads to brighter nights and geese and deer are much more apt to move in the middle of the night with the full moon where as the new moon they will move more dusk and dawn... thus I think makes for better hunting conditions as their movement coincides with the time available to hunt them.... so better success....  OK I know ..." SHUT UP DOG"..... laugh laugh

What I want to know is how a fresh softie would taste this time of year.

Scored some squid even in her weak state and major predators around. All she has to do is raise her claws and they backoff..  Grin

How many gallons is yours Jack? I had a freshwater a long time ago and loved it. What is a good size for salt to keep crabs and small fish?

That tank is 75 gallons.  I have kept small (1 inch) blue crabs in gallon jars when I was a kid.  My suggestion would be a 20 gallon tank.  That would keep one crab and a few minni's just fine.  We had a jimmy in a 20 gallon tank for 3 and 1/2 years.  Search "aquarium crabs" here on the BCA.  There are tons of topics here about keeping crabs.

I just noticed today the crab I have in my tank
has started to hunker-down....backing down into
the crushed coral and sand bottom. I'll have to take a
