I wonder why they put the Spot in a bucket instead of just tossing it over board?

Ghost pots are a real environmental problem.
Probably not as bad as a Waterfront land owner who uses chemicals to keep a green lawn..
North Carolina Did a study about Ghost Pots and found they have many good factors as well as bad..They claimed it as a "WASH"..And no longer complains about them..Theres lots of Sea Life that thrives in these pots, and Oysters love them too..

VIMS researchers measure and identify everything and then release the organisms back into the water. This is in conformance with the requirement by Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) that all bycatch is released.
For dinner I would have to say, since the measurement of the spot had already been completed their would be no need to keep the fish, or the sponge crab.

The problems caused by ghost pots are the most over exaggerated assault on commercial crabbing yet. cca claims that lost pots continue to catch fish, insinuating forever, while the fact of the matter is that most become so fouled with marine growth that crabs and fish can't even get in them. One more assault on commercial fishing fostered by cca's anti-commercial rhetoric

I believe these "ghost pots" provide more habitat for creatures than "they" claim they actually harm. I agree with Mr. Breeze 100%. A ghost pot, Im sure, is a welcome site for a small fish or crab being pursued by a larger predator.
