I have shead about 3500 crabs with minamal mortality. however today i loaded the system with 1000 crabs at once ( the most crabs at one time) checked the nitrite level and it was through the roof, crabs started hanging up and dying pumped off 800 gallons and refilled and added ridex. my question is how long does it take for the level to drop.

I would test the water your adding, If you just added the crabs and your having a problem. Could also have an d.o. issue as well. Ridex, usually starts working immediately. 800 gallons is alot of water, it may be contaminated from the start.

How much water capacity do you have?,You need to change as much of it as possible, with the rid-x things should look better for you this morning I hope.Next time try adding some rid-x before you put the load on the system along with 2 boxes of baking soda,I mix mine up in water and put it straight in the reservoir.Put your peelers in the cooler and put them in over a few hours.

I don't use one,my DO2 level is fine and when I load the vats full I turn on another pump on high speed just to give it a extra kick.

Last time I even looked at one of them, they were way out of my price range.
