It's awful industrial down there, but I know in reality, all the water mixes and none of it's great.
Today's Wye crab is tomorrow's Inner Harbor crab. :/

According to the fish advisory report all crabs are okay to eat in all parts of the bay. It can be found in an internet search for maryland fish advisory.
Just don't eat the mustard according to this report.
hope this helps
It was posted in reply # 11 of this thread. If you read it more closely, the area Bear creek is in has restrictions on crab MEAT:
Patapsco River/Baltimore Harbor meals: 96 72 55
mustard: DO NOT CONSUME

It's like catching a crab at the Wye, and throwing it in a toilet with condoms, needles, oil and chemicals for a few days before eating them.
UMMM UMMM GOOD!

Bear Creek aint got nothing on Bush River Crabs. Lots more nasties up here. Chemical biological warfare runoff . Sewer plant discharges into Bush River from Edgewood Aresnal. They dont wear astronaut suits while changing filters up here for nothing. Dam the crabs are good though.

HHmmm, well I can tell you back in the points Hey-day , with the right color discharge, I saw crabs crawl out of the water, to there death, to get away from that $hit! This IS a true story. But have no fear, many years of far "less" toxic sediment, has buried that sediment!

We called that a "Crab Jubilee". It was because there was no oxygen in the water. Im not sure how much effect what Sparrow's point was discharging had on the water having no oxygen......but, most of the time, the discoloered water was from an algae bloom. As the algae dies, it consumes all the O2 in the water, forcing the crabs to climb out or sufficate. It doesnt just happen on Bear creek, happens at the Wye too, and many other rivers from time to time.

Than why is it testing higher? With the population rise as well, combined with Sparrows point still discharging, there are just as many if not more toxins entering than before. When people say they taste "sweet", I think of antifreeze.

The thing that made me change my attitude about seafood in the the harbor was working dredging projects. We also would work with BGE replacing submaine power cables across Bear creek every time a boat would cut them. The stuff that came up off that bottom was toxic and foul.
If you eat those crabs, you will have no problem eating gulf crabs and seafood this year.

Are those people crabbing in the backround of the news cast??!!!
They have a crabbing net and look to be scooping something. Not a greats place to crabs after that story.

They are not crabbing, they are collecting floating trash, like dead animals, plastic cups, bottles, condoms, needles, etc so the tourists don't see them. They have people in bass boats go around the harbor all day picking up trash with dip nets. There was also a story about the city cutting that trash collection from the budget.

Here's the truth:
The mustard is bad. Avoid it.
The meat is no more contaminated than any other crabs in the bay.
The taste is not nearly as good as what you find south of the BB. But, unless you compare, you wouldn't know the difference.
Finally, GP is probably the worst a far as contamination. Too many foreign compounds to list. Interesting chemicals in that neck of the woods.

The Pax has been condemned for years......They shouldn't let a boat in that river.....
