Hey all,

My first post. Smiley

Anyway, went scapping a couple hours ago. 3 dozen big crabs in one hour. All female. Was awesome, threw all the medium, semi-large, and black eggs back. Sorry, this location is classified. But, they are out there!

Goodluck everyone,

Billy

Hey Cheetah

I'm also from Midlothian and found a fairly good spot in West Point which is only about an hour from us. If you go to the center of town there is a dock to the left of the second bridge. Just make the left before getting onto the bridge and go down the road a bit and you'll see the boat dock and the fishing crabbing pier. I went there with the kids last weekend and only caught about 5 but a couple who was there before we got there had about 1/2 bushel.

Thought I'd share what i know. Do you have any spots which are fairly close to us also?

Good luck !

plenty of crabs. share with everyone. what matters is how you sell your product. if you rely on a dealer you put your money in  someone elses hands first.

Hey dredge crab. You hope they do? Cry
I know its tough making a living. I worked for the same company for 17 years. I came back from vacation with my family. Went to work on Monday morning and found out that they where restructing all upper managements pay scale. I went from making 200 K a year to 80K. I have learned to manage with less pay and went out and found another career @ 40.

So my point is that either find another way to supplement your income for the absent money from winter dredging or find another job?

I think the state of Virgina, Maryland, and North Carolina should pay the comm waterman for the money they are losing. I would be willing to pay a few extra bucks towards my fishing license or crabbing license.

But in now way should they open winter dredging ever again. The reports support what its done to the crabbing population over the last 30+ years.

you are ignorant on the whole matter. i dont want to explain it. but believe me we sell more females with sponges throughout the summer than females we catch dredging. i see hundreds of  bushels of sponges get caught daily. we are lucky to catch 15 to 20 bushels a day during winter months. you should put your efforts into closing that industry. the good captains know how to dredge up the females without destroying them or the bottom. pity the press focused on the poor captains who work the hard bottom. why would we waste our time destroying our catch? when you dredge in soft bottom and pull the dredges properly you get clean crabs. nothing destroyed.
