I am going to guess there are many factors to consider in the answer to this question to hit the nail on the head, but in general how long does it take for a crab to regenerate a lost appendage? Will they do it when they molt. I have caught many that were hard and in the regeneration process having a soft claw, leg or swim fin. I even caught a few that were almost cut in half at one time or another and were regenerating the missing half of their body.
I have seen little posting on this subject and just looking for some insight.

Flaming oil and acid keeps them from regenerating... Otherwise its 3 hit points per round... ...oh wait, we are talking about crabs, not trolls....  |

I think it happens a lot too when crabs back out of their old shell and get snagged and end up leaving behind a bunch of legs/claws. I think thats what happened with that one right there.
