No problem son,if you don't like what the crabbers across the state came up with the politicians in Tallahassee said that if we couldn't come up with a plan they would and the closed season would be the same as stone crab season so if thats what you want go right ahead and cry to your Senator but if you were to get it closed for the rest of us for that long by some chance,Montana would not be far enough away for you to move to,I don't know just where your from but it was a Senator from Sarasota with senority and power who was all for a summer closing.

Sounds like next year we might have to spend more time down there.

Ronnie, isn't this just 10 days a year to declare waters "pot free"?

Can't see why anyone would be against it.
We do the same up here, luckily it's in February when there isn't much going on anyways.

We do 3 regions in Jan,2 in July and one in Aug,2 weeks from now unless something changes most of the crabbers are going to be putting a big chunk of their gear on the hill anyway because sales are going to bottom out, always do this time of year.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the closure. Its good to clean up old gear.I just wonder why they wouldnt do it in january. This site is a good resource i would like to join but i was hoping to make some friends. everyone seems confrontatonal so is signing up even worth it . My family has crabbed since the seventies .My dad used to build cypress blue crab traps in the sixties . so dont make me sound cheap. because i dont appreciate it. All ive ever done is fish .since i was a little kid catching silver mullet lobster stone crab in the keys . With my two older brothers mike ronny birren .I truly love and respect the ocean.

While we might sound confrontational we are answering your questions and giving advice,as far as family history in the business,it wont buy a cup of coffee.
All trap retrieval trips have a FWC observer on board, most of the time it's staff from the marine division and never from LE,last year being as it was the first year was done at no charge to the crabber no matter how many were picked up,it will not be that way in the future.ALL traps picked up are required to be destroyed and disposed of in the dump.
You really need to read the statues and rules governing the fishery you are in before you go HHMMMMMM,there is a little more to blue crabbing in Fla in 2010 than putting out traps and catching a few when the crabbing is good.

John Jones is an instructer in Ocala now. He's only on the water on holidays. All the traps I picked up were recorded and disposed of in the Citrus Co. landfill including two of my own. Didn't have time to get south of Homosassa. Just a question, I crab from around six am until two or three pm, I see your buoy's but never see you, do you crab all night? HMMMMMM?

Me and my dad crab yeararound. even when it gets so hard to catch we can only go twice a week. and that seems to coincide with our mullet run and ladyfish season. so i end up fishing for them four days a week, and crabbing two church on sunday. crabbing and fishing is a way of life for my family doesent matter if its good or not.

Yeah we fish beside one another in quite a few places. Beautiful country up there and no gear loss or crab theft. That just makes it even better
