Gloucester Point 7/17/10

Got out today 9a-3pm. Last time I had been crabbing was York Point 3 years ago and it was lousy. Today I got out at low tide and was high tide when I finished. Water was 82 and weather was very hot. We ended up with 30 keepers. We caught about 60 all together. We only kept males. Used chicken for bait. Had a good time except for the heat. Crabbing was best when we first got there and then was more sporadic after that. What has biggest impact on production? Is it gotta hit a certain tide (low better than high?) Is it early a.m. is key and later in the day not as good? Is it strictly finding the right location? We were in about 6 foot of water usually. Tried 11 foot of water but that did not work out......

Nice catch . the best time to crab is when the tide is moving .

Thanks Tattoo. Was thinking outgoing tide would be the best. Did not know if incoming is as good as outgoing. Is time of day important? I used to go 3a-8a when I was a kid and did well. Didn't know if daytime was as good as those hours?
