Gene is the man in OBX for live crabs.
If you can steam them he can hook you up. I just finished steaming a bushel #1s and they were beautiful 5.5 to 7 inches 5 dead but my bushel was pushing the lid off.
This is not a plug, because I also had a great time with my kids catching crabs off our little dock at our rental near the Manteo causeway,  We caught a dozen yesterday in a 10 hour period and had a great taste but now I can sit and pick all night.
     Thanks Gene,  Your the Man

Kevin/Gene,

I definitely second that. My family and I (from MD) were down in the OBX last week and we also called Gene for crabs. We were very pleased, got a nice packed bushel of jumbos from him..........bowing lid and all. He is THE MAN to see! Thanks again Gene! See ya next time bud.

After reading many posts and reviews of Gene's crabs, I was still a little skeptical.  Bascially because in Maryland what Gene delivers would cost me $150+++   So for $80 a bushel, I'm thinking there must be a catch.  Boy was I wrong!

So today, I gave Gene a buzz first AM and asked if I could get a nice bushel of #1 males.   Gene said "no problem" and then told me to call him back around lunch time and he would meet me near my rental home in Kill Devil.  I traded Gene the the cash for a bushel basket of PACKED, and I do mean PACKED #1 males.   The lid was bowed and when Gene popped the lid to show me the catch, the crabs were trying to escape out the sides.

Got them back to the condo and everyone was like, "WOW".   We ended up with about 80 big crabs, and only a couple dead loss.  It took me 3 packed steamer pots / 90 minutes to get all of them steamed.  Everyone enjoyed, and for the price we would pay for a dozen steamed crabs at home that size, it would have cost me triple what Gene charged.

If you're going to OBX and don't mind steaming your own crabs, give Gene a call immediately upon arrival!

Hey.. I have got to give it up to Gene myself.. My wife and I arrived on August 21st and met Gene on the 23rd.  These crabs were beautiful and tasted great!! And the basket ran over..  What a deal.. I picked crab until my fingers just about bled but man was it worth it..   Definitely going to be a yearly tradition to get a bushel from Gene.. Great guy to deal with.

Take the family chicken-necking for a few hours for fun, then pick up your dinner from Gene.  Smiley
