Looking for info on Crabbing out of Washington, NC

Hello,
I have a 16'6 with a 50hp and looking to take to my 2 boys ages 3 1/2 and 6 crabbing this weekend, I have spoke to the people at McCotter,s Marina and they say it is pretty calm and should not be a problem, my question is does any one know how the crabbing would be in the area of Broad Creek off of the Pamilico River? Any advice would be greatly appreciated hoping to make a good first impression on the boys and of course a nice pot of crabs for the 4th would be great.
