I wonder what the world record is for the most Blue Crabs caught in one day?

Does anyone remeber the Crab Glut of 1985 ?

Before the sook regulations, guys on the lower ES would put 100 baskets on a boat in a morning.  Didn't believe it until I saw, and counted, 100 baskets. Wink

In December of 85 the fleet struck a major body of crabs about 7mi or so above Cape Charles.
over 200 boats caught their limits "75 bu/ea" at least one time that day.

Our crab buyer shipped the crabs to picking houses as far away as Florida............

Theres a guy from Hoopers Island Named Curtis Simmons, he had the State of Va. change there law and start enforcing the limit they have now.. He came in Cape Charles with 250 baskets.. Thats the most that I know of...
The most I ever caught was 165 baskets... And that was only fishing 500 pots..Some I'm still small time..

Question was all those crabs hard or white trash or a mix of both. I know watermen who catch a lot of crabs like 25 bu to 30 a day running pots but there crabs are pure white [curd] and they wonder why no one wants there crabs.

So how many trips two on one boat. I have a 42 foot deadrise that many crabs would never fit on one trip with out them falling all over the place. I only can get 150 crab pots on that boat at a time and that is stacking 3 high.

You might need to get out of Elkridge a little more....I can put over 200 pots on my 32 ft CC, And yes they will stack more than 3 pots high..Heck I can get 150 on my 25 foot Parker...Come to NC and I'll show you how to Crab Pot..... Grin
