Boat Rentals in Strathmere
«

I know there are two places to rent boats in Strathmere, but can't find there names or numbers on the board. I also would like to know if I could reserve the boats or if I have to get there early. Any help would be appreciated.

i couldnt imagine now, but i can tell you that back in 96 or 97, i was renting a boat from whale creek every weekend, sometimes on saturday and sunday, it was 29.95 for a full day, you COULD not beat that price anywhere. But now, Duke and Walt no longer run the place so I dont know the prices. The women is very helpful and she has been around for a while also, but I can't remember her name either. The shallows of ludlams bay should have crabs right now if you go. Good luck!!

Is there a best time to contact them? Whenever I call, I receive no response. I've also emailed them but don't know if I'll get results.

Red Dog in Sea Isle has also gone. He sold his boats to pier 88 they're on 88th and the bay down by townsend inlet, Pier 88 told me they removed the bimini tops from the boats also, so you better bring extra sun block & more beverages

What gives, insurance or land value?
If this keeps up, I may actually be able to justify buying my boat!
Their are a few places in northern O.C., but they are no bargan!
I always run aground in Ludlams bay, just too shallow outside the channel. Lately I've been going to the 34th street bridge in O.C., ok, but nothing great!
Lets hope this HOT weather keeps up!

Now, I always start crabbing at low tide when the fishing starts to die down . if you can navigate to ludlams bay though whale creek, you should be able to find a spot to crab without running aground. right outside the entrance of whale creek is a spot where the channel bends close to shore and i usually sit on the edge and toss my handlines out. good luck if you try it!!!

PhillyGuy, I was wondering if you still had any luck at 34th St. I went this year and pulled up all Green Crabs. Went last year and the place was way more crowded due to the new pier, which I'm sure also lead to a lower catch.

I have not been out this year, but last year...
Nothing great at 34th street. I put my pot in at the new pier, only got a few crabs. Hand line and trap in the creek across from the new pier (heading towards Yeasterdays) only about 2 dz. of small crabs per trip. Enought to make gravey, but not a feast.
Ludlam Bay was good a few years back, but very little last year. This year I'm going to try up the T. River pass the powerplant.
I got a bigger boat last Labor Day, can not wait to get out this year, but I have to sell my old boat first (keep the wife happy). Until then I'll just be reading the reports, not writting them.

If Red Dog is out of business then it looks like either Frank's or Larsen's this year for me, probably Larsen's. Didn't think Red Dog was going to last. Too inconvenient after all the parking disappeared. That ferrying back and forth from the muni lot just added too much time and hassle to getting out. Guess the land got to valuable because the whole area that used to be Vitello's and all around Red Dog has become condo. Not exactly what I would consider the best area for a vacation spot but I guess a shore home is a shore home.
