I'm a newbie looking for crabbing piers along the Westchester side of the Hudson

Hello

I'm a long time fisherman who loves to eat blue claw crabs. Recently I purchased 2 traps and
I'm ready to go crabbing. I just need some help from you to point me to the local piers and let
me go at it. Anywhere along the Hudson from Yonkers and points north. Yes guys I did a search
already and the closest pier I could figure is in Peekskill. If that's the closest pier so be it.

However, please give me any helpful info to ge started and and have a chance.

Wow guys! 

Not one response to my question.

I wasn't looking for boat locations or secret private dock locations. Just simple
public pier locations that I'm not at all familiar with.


The primary word being public.

I'm new at this. I'm sure everyone was new at this at one time.

if you take time and read through threads you can learn a lot, about locations just like most without yelling at people. honey or vinegar?

It's been a long time since I went to school and I'm not too familiar with all the latest
email communication abbreviations and meanings. However the last time I used an exclamation
was to emphasize the prior statement. In my case my surprise regarding the lack of answers.
Then followed by my sad face.    I'm not sure how that might have been interpreted as shouting.
Maybe I'm missing something.

Presently I can't get around like I used to and going to Peekskill is too far for me.
I was hoping there was a place closer to the Yonkers area.

I just got here, and this forum doesn't seem friendly.

Hey crab fighter... save your "exuberance" for the crabs. My suggestion is to hit a few places that sell gear for crabbing and your normal bait shops. I do not think too many from your neck of the woods post on this site... still you can learn a lot on here.

no problem, sorry I did not realize you were limited as I am, I have to travel at least an hour everytime I go crabbing because of all the private lands up here, try what we did (wife and I) Google Earth  or Bing Maps. also DEC public access to Hudson river and definitely read threads through resources and reports. like they say no pain no gain.  but I tried to look in your area no luck. love to here a report from you  good luck and go get em

Crabfighter,  I have to agree that it would seem very easy for someone just to say:  I've had luck at a few spots such as....   but apparently many people aren't as forthcoming as you'd expect.  Or maybe the helpful folk just haven't read the posts lately.  I hope you find a good spot!

It appears he asked for info on a large general area which is difficult to name every place along the Hudson heading north.

The question 'which bait is better' is another example. That's a pretty general question. By reading some posts, I found out some guys use everything from bull lips to dog chews! I love to learn new stuff!
"How do I attach my bait to a trap"? I another question that's been answered from north to south.
I've crabbed for years...now I know what a snood is!
But, some questions keep getting asked over and over.

Also, as in any online forum or in public, a good first impression is to introduce yourself, read some past/older posts, answer a few posts you have knowledge in, and then ask a more specific question that may not have been asked before.

It's like the guy who comes into a room with people watching a football game, he asked what's the score, (everyone wonders why the new guy didn't notice the score on the screen) Nobody answers.
Then new guy, with a frowny face asked, who's the quarterback?
Everyone wonders, which team? who is this guy? You know this guy? ...Still, nobody answers.

I understand the frustration, I've used forums for EVERYTHING for years, (they used to be called bulletin boards) from music, home repair, etc etc.

A search using Hudson river will turn up everything with 'Hudson' AND 'river' but using Bolien expressions such as " " * * (remember algebra?) will answer most, if not all questions.

With all the knowledge that's here (and on the web) just about every question has been answered.
Finding and sifting through it is the hard part.

There are some very nice people that are very forthcoming with their helpful information.
For instance, I've read numerous posts of guy finding a trap, posting it on here and the owner got it back!
Even GPS location to one persons 'honey hole'!
