Well, went to daytona again since the crabs were so delicious. Did great this time around. Had the traps in by 10am, and crabbed until 4. Caught 99 nice keepers total this time. Very big crab. They are as big as my.....well, they are big....hahaha. All from a bridge too... No boat.
Had maybe 15 or 16 traps running, and pulling up a steady 4-8 keepers on almost every run. They are delicious too...haha
Thanks,
Matt Nico

Is that the Dunlawton Bridge? I've heard they are getting them there.
I hope you had others with you!
Florida law is five (5) traps per person and ten gallons of crabs per person.
Thanks for the report; that's a good days work!

Florida is only 5 circle net traps per person? I didnt know that... We had 6 people crabbing, so we werent breaking any laws anyway, but I didnt know that. Where can I see that information for my self?

I sent you a bmail but here is the Florida regs:
http://myfwc.com/RulesandRegs/Saltwater_Regulations_recbluecrab.htm
You can find them under Southeast Coast and then right below reports (this thread).

ICW the FWC officer I spoke to, a circle net is not a trap. Anything less then one cubic foot is not a trap. Traps per FWC/Fl admin. Codes is a steal cage. And you can not use a trap at night i.e. collect from it but you can leave it soak overnight. Give me four more FWC officers and I will give you four more opinions. It is very poorly written unless you are a lawyer.
So if a circle net / drop net you tie bait in are a trap you can not use it at night from the pier/dock/bridge as it is a trap, no traps at night. Then that leaves you only a light/lantern and a dip net to catch crab at night.

Went to the Dunlawton Bridge on 8/7. Fished the NE side with 5 drop nets for 5 hours. Conditions were a little wet with high tide coming in. I caught only 5 keepers using chicken as bait. Evidently, sheepshead likes chicken too. How often should bait be changed out, if it even needs to be?

Go to the bait shop right on the dunlawton bridge, and ask the guy for a pack of chicken necks. They attract the crabs big time. My family just told me they went out on friday, and crabbed for 2 hours and got 40 nice keepers.
