The fellow "tinman" whom prompted me to begin this thread has passed - once his illness began he found himself in a constant battle.

Too me his passing is a blessing for him because for a over 2 years he was put thru [Sam Hill].

RIP Larry angel2

Thank you Mutzy.

During "Tinman's" ordeal I asked his permission to post about him on the forum, he was pleased I asked and told me Sure post it.

He also had no problems with his Doctors using his case as a teaching tool so the Docs could become more aware and help others via his experience.

Knowing "Tinman" as a crabber and cousin the best Condolence would be for ALL to be aware of what is out there and the risks involved.

Only the last few months of his life did he give up hope of returning to crabbing. So it is not fear he wished to induce simply take care of those injuries on and of the water.

I thank all for their concern and Larry would be pleased if he helped one person avoid his  awful experience.

I had a smaller to medium size crab pinch my thumb last month while trying to release him from the trap. I havent had one "get me" in years. I usually bring tongs just for the [Sam Hill] of it. Anyway, it made a cut on both sides of my thunb. Didnt hurt until that night. Swelled up and throbbed like you know what!!!! I've also sliced my foot and had cuts on my hands from gathering oysters. Like Flounderpounder said, I usually wear my "Frocs" or as my 7 year olds caLL THEM, Fake crocs. Best 10 buck feet protection ever, even though you can still get cut every now and then. GREAT awareness from everyone! I will certainly take more precaution as well. Thanks to all!!

Our shellfish beds have been closed here since the weather warmed in mid August.
I was wondering why since we haven't had too much rain. The beds are usually closed for ten days following  a 1 inch rainfall because it overflows the treatment plan. This has been closed for too long. Finally found out why. Vibrio in the Oyster and Clam beds have been isolated. They say it's not widespread and predominately in Oysters. Water temperature here is 72 to 76F.
They have kept this real quiet. I will take extra precautions when on the water.
