I have about a dozen or so steamed crabs in the fridge. How long will they be good for?

I ate some 7 days old this past Sunday. My head told me I shouldn't but my nose and stomach disagreed. I think I was pushing it but I am alive and somewhat well

They stay good for about 5 days anymore than that you are pushing it give them a sniff when you open them you can pretty much tell. No sense getting sick over a few crabs

It's hard to say.... Everybody has an opinion If you bought the crabs...what condition were they in when you bought them, vs catching them yourself....get my drift. I keep crabs that I catch myself 3 days and they're out. Use the nose......give the crabs a sniff...... if you smell ammonia, NO GOOD.

Really a week is pushing the bacteria threshold a bit.

I say after a 2-3 days you should atleast break them down... shell off, guts and lungs out, claws and legs off leaving the back fin. I've even vac-packed crab 1/2's and freezed them... worked ok...
makes for good soup meat!

i ate 11 day old crabs, 4 of them. wife had em in a plastic bag with newspaper. claws were dry, no smell . a little dry but not bad at all. i wouldnt have waited so long didnt know they were there. after a few weeks in the fridge they completetely dry out but never smell in my experience , which is extensive

Does it make any difference if you cleaned before steaming? Maybe they dry out faster?
