Do I Need a License to Crab on LI, New York?

As far as I understand, the new saltwater license requirements in NY only apply to fishing.  However, someone just told me crabbing is also included in those new rules. 

Can someone please clarify whether or not I need a license to crab on Long Island?

No, you do not need a license.

i  thought you did not need i license any more  in new york  for salt water fishing .. i was told that by a sales person in sports athority. i hope that is true . if not someone please tell me the truth .. thanks

The saltwater license was repealed, so you do not need it any more. However, even before it was repealed, the license did not apply to recreational crabbing. Still have to follow to recreational crabbing laws. 50 per day per person, 4 1/2" hard shell, 3 1/2" soft shell.

Even though it was repealed, you still have to be a registered recreational salt-water fisherman.

Correct, but, as far as i understand, you do not need to register if you are just crabbing, because the licence itself. did not relate to crabbing.
