Is there a maximum number of baits allowed on a 600' trotline?

As far as I know you can put as many baits on there as you want to.  I think the only restriction on trotline is the total length, 1200'.

The # of baits doesn't matter....the length of the line doesn't really matter, the "baited" portion (distance from the first neck to the last neck) of line cannot exceed 1200', that's what matters Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Yea most recs probably dont relize that they are only using about 1150ft. I know a lot of guys I see leave a good bit of line with no bait on the end toward the chains. My line is probably only 975 if I think about it cause I have some space between the first bait and the chains and my line is 1000ft

Have you run a 150' line yet in NJ?  I tried and by the time you get set up on it your done Smiley Plus, if you set out the full 25 baits that's only 6' between them which is kind of tight, especially when your just starting out.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Yes it is kind of tricky.  I run 2 150' trots and i like it when i take someone crabbing that has never used a trot because it keeps them interested.  My girl is only 3 and is getting the hang of it.  If i take her jugging she gets bored and she is not so good at pulling traps.  Plus i hate when she tries to reach for the jug or hits me with the boat hook!  Should be crabbing this weekend if all goes well!  Later.
