I decided on #6 solid nylon for my box traps. I am now looking for a material to use to make bait holders for my box traps. String is a pain and takes long. Anyone have any ideas on materials and where I can find them? Thanks, Anthony

Springs work amazingly!!! you can get them at any hardware store.  i've never had a problem with bait getting stollen and baiting and rebaiting takes seconds.

i have coils of wire that i make fyke nets with, that i use for bait holders.  i just bend the peice of wire to make it look like a hand line bait holder that you would buy at a store. then i hog ring it to the trap.

the wire that i use is pretty expensive and a little overkill...any kind of wire that doesnt bend too easily will work. good luck aj

well the springs are going to have a litle hook on each end of them.... you simply atatch the hooks on to the wire of your trap, when you have done that, you should be able to place your bait inbetween the trap wire and the spring.   the springs i use are about 2 inches long.  if you have anymore questions i'd be glad to help.  Grin

Eelfisher,
What type of wire is it, where can I buy it, and how much does it cost? I only need enough to make 30 clips for my 30 box traps. Thanks, AJ

aj,  the wire i use is from a comm. fishing catalog, i only use it because i have it handy. sold by the pound, dont think its worth it to buy it just for this purpose.

home depot sells coils of wire for chain link fencing. a coil is well more than what you need, but i think its fairly cheap. plus its fairly easy to bend. ive used it before and it works well. hog ring or zip tie it to your trap. good luck
