 I was told there was some sort of dip for dipping wire pots in to prolong the life. just wondering if anyone uses it what its called and how effective it was.

Flex-a-bar. Keeps growth off. Somewhat effective. About $22/gal if you buy it by the drum.

Some of the guys in Louisiana use it. Don't know the name but it works pretty well for keeping the grass from growing on the traps. Only problem sometimes the crabs get stupid and will not go in a clean trap. Then what do you do? Its a big mess dipping or spraying the dip on the traps.

Been there,done that,lots easier to paint em and no hassles about large amounts of clorine on the boat getting into the water. |

I don't know about crabs but the nastier my lobster traps get the better they seem to fish........but the heads of said traps, the cleaner the better!!............

In Fla most lobstermen have high power pressure washers on the boat to clean them almost each trip. |

We use tar around our way. Pull pot,shake,dip, bate, back in water. Its messy as [Sam Hill] but it does the job.

LOL its black.. ........ but really its not. We have a special built bin that holds the tar and a tarp underneath it to catch any spillage. You have to pick your days when you can do it but on a slick calm day its no problem. We start by dipping the pots in the yard right before we put the pots back in the water in spring and sometimes we don't have to do it through out the summer but sometimes we do. We just play it by ear and do as needed |
