Looking for Patuxent gill net laws. We have called DNR and can’t get straight forward answer and the books don’t say much.

Not sure if DNR reads this board or if anyone has a contact in DNR that does know the laws.

When you get an answer from DNR, get it in print and carry it with you...

In Annotated code - 4 - 730 :(c)  Drifting gill nets.- A person may not set or haul any drifting gill net in the Patuxent River south of the Patuxent River Bridge or in any creek, cove, or tributary of the river south of the Patuxent River Bridge at any time.

You are right though  - I'm having problems figuring where I can do what since I don't have a legal degree

Probably best to look up the gill net laws on line.  The words "Gill Net" will get you most of the laws.

Here is the website.

So if you stay within seasonal mesh sizes and stay out of locations discussed earlier you should be OK I would think. Keeping in mind size limits - I believe min. 8" white perch and 9" croaker. Haven't had time to research but that would be my guess. Keep us posted as it will be nice to know what you find out. Might even attend the ceremony when you get your law degree after all the research necessary Grin

I guess I don't know what you are asking.

The size regs are here.    http://dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/regulations/commregs.html

The times you can set gill nets are in the net regs I gave you.

Most the rivers have the same regs as the rest of the bay except at rock fish spawning time and any Government Installations (some have there own regs around the installation). You have to get those regs from the installation.
