Hi, how does one measure a clam or oyster to see if it's legal size?  Also, are they any decent places for clamming and or oyster near Venice Florida?  Don't have a boat, so I have to be able to wade out.  Looks like parts of Lemon Bay and Stump pass may be the closest places to me from the maps on the Florida website.

Ahh....you would want to check with your state to see what there legal min. sizes are first........ the state regs usually explain how to measure shellfish within said state.....

I looked there, all I can find is 1 inch for clams, three for oysters.  Nothing on how to measure them.  Do you measure the hinge of the clam across or along?  They oyster just needs to not be able to pass through a three inch diameter circle right?  Or do I measure how long it is?
