Ifv you change just a few of the names and then look at whats going on in md right now between EDF the md watermans Acco. and DNR you might think that our crab fishery could end up with the same mess. JUST SAY NO TO CATCHSHARES. it won't work here either. it will put 90% of our crab fleet out of biz. the same way and make the top ten % richer, including the dealers and packing houses who would buy up shares others couldn't afford.

That's what pissed me off.  Gibby pushed to allow Harris Seafood (who's a large dealer) to be on the panel.

Dealers should be represented on a panel like that just as there are people from different regions, different size crabbers, different gear types, most crabbers who catch any amount of crabs have to have dealers making them a partner in the crabbing business and giving them a right to be represented at the table when resource management is being discussed, what shouldn't be allowed is for ANYBODY including dealers to own a catch share, quota or trap certificate, that right should be reserved for harvesters only, not LCC's,corporations, partnerships or investment groups, they should be issued to a individuals name and tied to a harvest requirement.

Yeah,  Dealers should have a seat at the table.  Each area has ONE representative potter and ONE representative trotliner.  Dealers should have ONE representative too, and they had one, Jack Brooks from JM Clayton.  Now that Karen Ortel from Harris cried her way onto the board, dealers have TWO representatives

In the end it is going to be dealers and corporations OWNING a PUBLIC resource!

We all hope not slayer,we wrote it in the the Stone crab rules in Fla when we made the management plan that the trap certificates can only be in a indviduals name.
