I know there still many months to go. But, the 2010 thread was posted early as well, and i havent seen a 2011 one yet. Whats everyone doing to get ready for the upcoming season in the Hudson? Hopefully this thread can get as big as last seasons, with everyone posting their catches, once it starts up again.

im sure it will as it gets a little closer to that time when test traps start hitting the water.i herd this year you are not going to be allowed to use chicken in the hudson because all the chicken bones are being thrown in the water and polluting the river i know i cant wait to get out there already i was only out 2 times last year hoping to make it alot more this year

Yeah, some guy on the cold spring peir was telling d_murph, hxc_vdubb and myself about that as well. I've checked the DEC website a countless number of times, havent found anything. Next time i talk an ECO, i'll have to ask em if they know anything about it.

Also, if it actually is a new law, it should be on the DEC site already, as well as in the 2010-2011 Regs book.

Every year this rumor comes up about one river or another.  In one state or another.  If you do find something in writting please post it but I think you can safely forget about it.  If a law like gets traction, I'm sure you will hear about it on the BCA.... Wink

I figured it was just a rumor, and not actually a new law.
Thanks!

Haha. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

When do you guys normally start up again in the Hudson? Last year was our first season, so we're still full of questions.

DMurph, hxc_vdubb and myself would like to hit the 500 crab mark this season. Meaning, a total of atleast 500 blue crabs over the course of the summer.

haha. yeah, yeah. We started mid way through the summer last year, so this is actually going to be our first full season. With conflicts of work, schoolwork, and my football schedule, we're not able to go as much as we'd like. 500 is practicle for us, but will be a little bit of a challenge.

Haha. Our max last year was 116 crabs in about 6 hours, all 5 inches plus, with a few dozen over 6 and a half.
We averaged about 3 dozen for all the times we went, ususally around 5 hours.

When are you guys planning on starting up again this year?

A 'few dozen' over 6.5" in the Hudson in one day is pretty darn impressive.

Glad to see everyone out there. Have heard  same rumours and have not seen it on DEC website.

Let's hope it's a good year.
