Went today with dmurph and hxv_vdubb, as planned. We figured we wouldn't catch any crabs, and we were right. haha. Few more weeks, hopefully.

Did catch 2 catfish and a couple perch with rods/reels.

Good thing we brought the fishing poles  laugh.
We will be trying again next week. Hopefully we can post a positive report.

CRABS ARE IN!!!!

...well. sort of. Withing a 4 hour period with dmurph and hxc_vdubb, caught a grand total of 1 crab!!! A monster 2 incher!  Grin Needless to say, he went back so we could catch him another day. At least its a good sign!

Also managed to catch half a dozen perch, a nice sized catfish, and unfortunatly, 3 eels. Hate those slimy bugers. Definetly a great night to be on the river.

3 eels?
Man I found out that they are the best crab bait there is!
Better than blue fish and necks for sure!!!

We catch eels all the time, whether its with poles, or in our crab traps. But we hate em. Haha.
We always just use chicken legs, works more than fine for us.

I dunno. We've seen guys using both eels and necks, and we were catching just as many, if not more, crabs then them, right by them. Maybe we'll give em a try sometime, but for the most part, legs work great for us.

Caught 12 keepers near Piermont, NY on 6/18/11. Action was sporadic throughout the day. This was over 6 hours. They were all 4 - 6 inch jimmies, obviously last years crabs that have emerged from the mud. All full of meat.

Got 44 keepers plus same amount in shorts this sunday by croton. used everything sunnies, bunker, also had a few bluefish & fluke racks.  Had 16 nets in the water by 7:15am. first pull got 9 keepers after a good soak.  Started thinkin this going to be great...next pull 2 keepers.  Packed up the nets and got the boat on the trailer around 11:30am.  River was gorgeous hardly a ripple on the water

Awesome. Glad to hear they are making their way up. Have a ton of chicken backs in the freezer. Just went out this morning and caught about 30 blue gill or so. Some of them were so big I almost wanted to fillet them instead of using for bait Cheesy. Think I am going to get out early tomorrow morning and give it a try

4 more 2" blues in Cold Spring tonight. When are the keepers gonna start showing up??  Sad    haha.

Brought the poles as always, and caught 4 nice sized perch, and 2 catfish. One of which was fairly big. 2lbs plus.

Just waitin on the crabs...

Question for you guys. Anyone ever try cut catfish for crab bait??

I have tried catfish in the past. Never caught one on catfish. Other nets had white perch and performed well during the same outing.

Another user (captron) was just talking about using catfish for crab bait down in Louisiana.

I'm gonna use the majority for coon bait, but heck, why not. i'll give it a try, once the crabs are actually up my way, and see if it works or not.

Gave a trap a soak at the annsville creek paddle center.  Last saturday 6/25 Some woman came out and asked me to move my trap.  I dont know why.  She just was anti fisherman.  I use a collapsible trap that I leave overnight.  I moved trap later at sundown down to my original spot and next morning it was gone.  New Yorkers love to steal people's stuff.  In md you'd get shot for that. This is the fifth trap I have had stolen over the years... Only in new york.  This is why I hate Yankees. Heading back to Dixie e the crabs are  are better and the people are too.

No longer Coldspring crabber.

Was in coldspring today again with dmurph and hxv_vdubb. Lots of people around with the Community Day. Got there around 9, and stayed till around 4. Caught about a half a dozen 2.5" crabs, and one 4 incher. Atleast they're getting a little bigger. Also caught 10 catfish, about a dozen perch, and a couple eels. Overall a great day, finished off with some fireworks. Hope everyone had a great 4th.

Angels if they are getting them in cold spring then they should be around the Bear Mountain Dock which is down river from Cold Spring  I like Cold Spring with kids cause they have a railing aroung the dock area but it is VERY public!  Other areas I make them wear a life jacket if they want to be by the water.   I would say the farther south you go the better your chances.  I may be croton bound this weekend.
