becoming a crabbing apprentice

Hi all,

Just wondering how i should go about trying to find a captain and boat i could be a apprentice on? I need someone who knows what the [Sam Hill] they are doing show me how to crab, and since im from michigan i have no connections to anyone down there i really dont even know how to start looking or asking. I want to make my living on the sea, i know its a hard way to make a living but up here in michigan there isnt many ways to make a living at all so i got to try something. I looking for someone commerical in the tampa sarasota/bradenton area who cann show me the ropes, any help at all would be great.

go to the docks and ask around...put an add on CL...stop in seafood stores to get some watermans names...

all the comms I've met  say it isnt a very good living on the water.......but they all have 40k trucks, multiple boats and nice houses...  seems like a pretty good livin to me

Look on craigs list there is a man in tampa selling the whole shabang 25k truck boat everything but in Fl u have to work with him 14 days and have $5k in sales to get the restricted species permit.
